About Us
From a helping hand to a thriving academy.
Our Ethos
At SGDA, we believe dance is about more than just steps — it’s about growth, creativity and belonging. Our ethos is built on six core values:
Excellence in Training
Guided by the Royal Academy of Dance, ISTD and Royal Ballet School Affiliate programmes, we provide high-quality teaching that develops strong technique and artistry.
Inclusivity
We welcome dancers of all ages, levels and abilities, with a strong commitment to supporting neurodiverse children and making dance accessible to everyone.
Creativity & Expression
We encourage every dancer to explore their individuality, use imagination, and find joy in expressing themselves through movement and performance.
Confidence Building
Every class is designed to nurture self-belief, resilience and independence — skills that support children both in and out of the studio.
Community & Belonging
SGDA is more than a dance school — it’s a family. We foster a supportive environment where dancers, parents and teachers feel connected, valued and inspired.
Progression Pathways
FroFrom first Tiny Toes steps to advanced pointe work, associate schemes and vocational training, we offer clear routes for every dancer’s journey.
Our Principal
Mrs Sophie Day is the Founder & Principal of SGDA and an Affiliated Teacher of the Royal Ballet School. Specialising in early years dance education, she is passionate about creating an environment where children feel supported, challenged and inspired.
Sophie leads a talented faculty, including Miss Warburton, Miss Greatbanks, Miss Eccleston and Miss Mather — each bringing specialist skills, professional experience, and the same caring approach that SGDA is known for.
Performances & Opportunities
Performance is at the heart of SGDA. Every dancer is invited to take part in our productions — from in-house sharings to full-scale theatre shows. In May 2026, we celebrate our 15-Year Anniversary Show at The Brindley Theatre, a milestone event showcasing the talent, creativity and hard work of our students and staff.
Our dancers also have opportunities to audition for associate programmes such as Elmhurst Young Dancers, The CAT Programme, National Youth Ballet, and the Royal Ballet School Associates Programme. Many progress into full-time vocational training or move on to university with a strong foundation in confidence, discipline and artistry.
