Dance Builds More Than Dancers - Part 4
This is something we don’t talk about enough.
Most dancers, even very committed ones, have a moment where they think, “What am I doing?”
Sometimes it happens in the teenage years.
Sometimes during vocational training.
Sometimes after an injury.
Sometimes quietly, when the love just feels different.
That moment does not mean dance has failed them.
It means they are growing.
For some young people, dance remains their path. For others, it becomes a chapter that gave them confidence, discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of self, even if they don’t carry on dancing forever.
Changing direction is not weakness.
Questioning is not failure.
Leaving dance does not erase what it gave you.
One of the healthiest things we can teach young dancers is that their worth is not tied to whether they keep dancing.
Dance can be a lifelong passion.
It can also be a powerful foundation.
Both are valid.
If you’re a dance parent, this conversation matters.
Helping children grow through dance, not just train for it.
Sharing honest thoughts on dance, development, and growing up.
