My Story

I began dancing at the age of three like most little girls do, beginning with Ballet and then extending my training with Tap and Modern classes. During my formative training at The Hammond School Associates I successfully auditioned for the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain and joined them in their Millennium Season. I was a Hammond Dance Associate, now known as Hammond Associates and was on the reserve list for the Royal Ballet Junior Associates programme.

After a successful audition MBNA granted me a scholarship at the age of 11 to begin my vocational dance training at the Hammond School, Chester. Later, at age 16, I was awarded a Dance and Drama Award to continue my training. I graduated in 2009 with a Distinction, the accolade of Most Improved Dancer and a Level 6 TRINITY diploma in Professional Dance.

Teaching had always been my real passion and long-time career goal and so on completion of my Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies I was delighted to be awarded the Registered Teachers Status by The Royal Academy of Dance.

I established SGDA because I felt so passionately about wanting to create a fair, positive & encouraging environment for children to train. I fully understands the importance of each student and so strive to provide the best learning experience for each individual, doing my utmost to ensure that the students and parents within the academy focus not on student competition, but peer encouragement and appreciation. I have an eye for spotting talent and potential in young dancers, and so with my eye for potential and vast teaching experience I help dancers realise and achieve their potential.

I was accoladed with the 'recognised teacher' status by the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre in 2016 and shortly thereafter the Academy was awarded the 'recognised school' status by the CDMT also.

I hold qualifications with The Royal Academy of Dance, the Australian Teachers of Dance and the Acrobatic Arts.

I hold a valid DBS certificate, I am a Licensed Matron with Cheshire West and Chester Council, I have valid First Aid certifications, a diploma in Counselling Children & Adolescents, an Autism Awareness Diploma, I am a certified Fire Marshall and hold a certification from the NSPCC in Child Safeguarding.
